2013 Breeders Classic Final Field Released

A small but classy field of seven mares has been accepted for this Saturday’s Breeders Classic 2013 at Rosehill Gardens, the race one of three Group showdowns on the early Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival meeting.

Due to run as Race 2 at 1:30pm (AEST) this year’s $175,000 Group 2 NSW Thoroughbred Breeders Classic (1200m) features a Group 1 winner and the defending champ along with plenty of other genuine chances.

The Group 1 winner in the mix is John Thompson’s Dehere four-year-old Pear Tart who took out the Tattersall’s Tiara in Brisbane last winter.

She has failed to win again since however and will look to improve on her disappointing spring when she resumes racing in the Breeders Classic, Christian Reith booked to ride her from barrier four on the 58kg topweight.

The next heaviest-weighted hopeful is then the Chris Waller-trained Red Tracer, a three time Group winner, with 57.5kg.

Due to be ridden by Hugh Bowman from gate two the Dane Shadow five-year-old is also first-up here having last run 10th behind Appearance in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on November 3.

Following Red Tracer on 57kg is then the defending Breeders Classic winner Steps In Time who has drawn barrier five with Jim Cassidy in the saddle.

The John O’Shea-trained daughter of Danehill Dancer also races for the first time since the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

She won this race second-up during a three straight winning streak last autumn and O’Shea is confident she will be the one to beat again this year after her scintillating track work this week.

Other notable hopes then include the Nick Olive-trained Capital Commander (barrier three) coming off a third in the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap on the Gold Coast in mid-January and Joe Pride’s Group 1 The Galaxy third place-getter Ladys Angel running for the first time since last May.
