Sacred Falls Leads Royal Sovereign Stakes 2013 Nominations

Undefeated Kiwi raider Sacred Falls is the top-line nominee for the 2013 Royal Sovereign Stakes which is one of three Group races running at Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this Saturday.

Rebel Dane

The undefeated Rebel Dane is one of the top nominees for Saturday's Royal Sovereign Stakes 2013

The Tony Pike & Mark Donoghue-trained O’Reilly colt boasts a flawless six from six record to date having broken into the big time last spring with their narrow victory in the Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas (1600m) back in November.

That victory came off the back of three other black type successes with Sacred Falls now in Australia and ready for an assault on the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

They had their first Sydney trial at the start of the month when fourth over 1050m at Randwick and are tipped to make an impact when resuming in the $175,000 Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m) on Saturday despite it being short of their best distance which is looking to be the mile.

Another undefeated youngster in the Royal Sovereign Stakes mix this year is then the Gary Portelli-trained Rebel Dane who won all three of their opening career starts in their first prep.

The California Dane colt debuted at Canterbury over 1250m in September and went on to win back-to-back races at Rosehill.

They have also enjoyed two winning barrier trials since their last official start on October 27 having won over 800m by three lengths in January and then by a length over 1200m at Warwick Farm on February 4.

Also coming off a last-start victory are then the lightly-raced Brett Partelle-trained Planet Reality who beat their rivals by five lengths in the mud at Cessnock earlier this month and Clarry Conners’ progressive Olympus gelding Turnley who won a 1250m handicap at Canterbury by three lengths last week.

Other notable hopes then include Adaboy Ross having just their third career start, John Thompson’s Casino Prince colt Casino Swoop who resumes and of course the Peter Snowden-trained Rusambo.

Elusive Quality three-year-old Rusambo was third to Snitzerland during the spring in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) on the back of a Listed win at Moonee Valley before resuming at Caulfield on Australia Day with a good second to subsequent Group 2 Expressway Stakes winner Happy Galaxy in the Listed Zeditave Stakes.

The current Royal Sovereign Stakes 2013 nominations are listed below, entries having been extended until 11:00am (AEST) on Tuesday.

With the race a nice lead-up for three-year-old colts and geldings heading towards some of the season’s bigger features including the $500,000 Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) on March 16 it makes a nice betting event.
