Guelph Joins Miracles Of Life at Top of 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes Betting

Darley filly Guelph is now an equal 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes favourite with Adelaide gun Miracles Of Life after a convincing win in the Group 3 2013 Blue Diamond Fillies’ Preview (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

The two-year-old was an odds-on favourite after winning the Vinery Plate at Warwick Farm in late January and showed why with a strong finish to win by 1 1/2 lengths from stablemate Montsegur and Godvia Rock.

The win has seen the daughter of Exceed And Excel shorten considerably in the Blue Diamond betting market and she now sits as joint $3.20 favourite with Miracles Of Life.

Guelph is one of a number of Darley-trained gallopers possibly heading towards the Blue Diamond but trainer Peter Snowden has always rated her as the top pick.

“Guelph will definitely be there,” Snowden said.

Kerrin McEvoy said he needed to help guide the filly around the home corner but was pleased with what was a mature performance.

“The impressive part was that she bounced out and took a good spot…she did it all really well.”

The $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes is the country’s second biggest two-year-old event behind the Golden Slipper.

Like Guelph, Miracles Of Life has earned her spot at the top of the market. The Daniel Clarken-trained youngster has been a dominant performer in the first three starts of her career.

She won her first two outings by 5 1/2 lengths and nine lengths respectively at her home track at Morphetville before travelling to Melbourne to win the Listed Blue Diamond Fillies’ Preview by 4 1/2 lengths at Caulfield on January 26.

Others at the top end of the Blue Diamond market include Peter Moody’s colt Thermal Current ($6.50), Darley filly Metastasio ($8), Crack A Roadie ($14) and Overreach ($14).
