2013 Blue Diamond Stakes Chance to Have a Crack at Mornington

Stephen Theodore’s talented colt Crack A Roadie will kick off his autumn campaign in the $250,000 2013 Inglis Premier (1200m) at Mornington on Wednesday before a possible start in the $1 million 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 23.

The Group 2 2013 Sires’ Produce Stakes (1200m) on March 9 is the two-year-old’s primary 2013 Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival target but Theodore is leaning towards also giving him a shot at Group 1 level in the Blue Diamond.

“The way he’s worked and trialled, the Diamond has really come into serious contention over the last three weeks,” Theodore told Racing Victoria.

A son of Charge Forward, Crack A Roadie debuted with plenty of hype from his trainer during the Spring Carnival.

He duly justified Theodore’s strong opinion when storming home to win the $255,000 Inglis Banner Stakes before being defeated on the line to run second in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate.

Theodore has previously described the emerging galloper as “the fastest horse” he has trained and could not be more pleased heading into Wednesday’s first-up test.

“Crack A Roadie is just where I want him going into Wednesday. It’s been a perfect preparation so far,” Theodore said.

“It’s very hard with two-year-olds, let alone any horse to say that everything’s gone spot on, but it has and I wish the race was tomorrow.”

Despite Theodore yet to confirm Crack A Roadie for the Blue Diamond, he has still been supported in the Blue Diamond market and currently occupies the fifth line of betting at $14.

At bookmaker.com.au Adelaide filly Miracles Of Life and Darley’s Blue Diamond Fillies’ prelude winner Guelph are joint favourites at $3.20.

Peter Moody-trained colt Thermal Current follows at $6.50 while another of Darley’s strong juveniles Metastasio is at $8.
