Perth colt Luke’s Luck will be given the chance to show his talents in Queensland when he is transferred to Brisbane trainer Kelly Schweida for a charge at the 2013 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.
The three-year-old was Western Australia’s pin-up two-year-old last season and will head to the sunshine state with clear goals.
Owner Craig Thompson is sending him to Schweida for a three-start campaign beginning with the 2013 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) and continuing with the Group 3 2013 Fred Best Classic (1400m) and the Group 2 2013 Queensland Guineas (1600m).
The son of Show A Heart has been in the spelling paddock since an indifferent Perth summer campaign and will head to Brisbane next week to begin his winter preparation.
“Luke’s Luck will head over next week straight from the paddock and get ready for the three races,” Thompson told the West Australia.
Luke’s Luck has won three of 10 starts with all those wins coming during his two-year-old career.
As a juvenile he was a dual stakes winner in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) and the Group 3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).
In his first outings as a three-year-old he was thrown into open company where he produced some strong performances to finish second to Power Princess in the Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes and third behind Luckygray in the Group 2 Lee-Steere Stakes.
Luke’s Luck may not be the only Thompson-owned horse to make the trip to Queensland this winter with King Saul to be on trial for a trip east when he lines up in the Bunbury Stakes on March 10.
Group 1 racing kicks off at Caulfield this weekend and bookmaker.com.au have outstanding odds on the CF Orr Stakes.
