Expressway Stakes 2013 Betting Tips

The autumn racing is beginning to heat up and while most of the action takes place at Caulfield this weekend there is still some excitement in Sydney with the Group 2 2013 Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm.

A mixture of youth and experience will contest this weekend’s Sydney feature with three-year-old colt Happy Galaxy the favourite at $3.20.

Youngsters dominate the betting with fellow three-year-old Tougher Than Ever next best in betting at $4.80.

In an open affair there are four other horses under double figures with last-start winner Skytrain ($6) slightly ahead of 2012 runner-up Centennial Park ($6.50).

Chris Waller-trained veterans Albert The Fat ($8) and Danleigh ($9.50) will kick off their autumn campaigns.

For those who like the roughies there are plenty at big odds including Guy Walter’s pair Willy Jimmy ($31) and Doctor Doom ($67).

Struggling to work our your Expressway Stakes tips? Don’t worry, the hard work has been done for you so keep reading for the Races.com.au expert Expressway Stakes selections.

The Winner

#9 Tougher Than Ever $4.80

This recent addition to the Chris Waller stable will be having his first start on Australian soil but brings strong credentials with him.

The former Kiwi generally produces decent form first-up and appears to have the class.

A group 1 winner as a two-year-old, two of his three career victories have come over the distance and he was last seen running third at Group 1 level in New Zealand.

Gets in 3.5kg lighter than all but Happy Galaxy under the weight-for-age conditions so looks very well placed here.

The Placings

#10 Happy Galaxy $3.20 and #1 Danleigh $9.50

Happy Galaxy is facing a step up in class here but he’s earned the start through some genuinely impressive performances.

Has won his last three straight including a dominant three-length walloping of his rivals in the Listed Zeditave Stakes at Caulfield on January 26.

Danleigh is running first-up but is a genuine class performer. At nine-years-old he returned to form during the spring with a third-place finish in the Warwick Stakes and a win in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes.
