Autumn Stakes 2013 – Betting Update and Tips

A bumper nine-race card takes place at Caulfield on Saturday and one of the top races on the program is the Group 2 2013 Autumn Stakes (1400m).

Ten three-year-olds will contest the Autumn Stakes which is fairly open as far as the betting market is concerned.

Darley colt Knoydart is the current $3.60 favourite but is only slightly ahead of Michael Kent’s High Shot ($4.40).

Peter Moody’s last-start winner Mulaazem is the market mover and is in to $5 while Victoria Derby runner-up Super Cool ($8.50) is also under double figures.

Others featuring in the betting are last-start winner Red Inca ($10), Group 3 winner Hvasstan ($12) and Victoria Derby champion Fiveandahalfstar ($17).

The Winner

#6 Mulaazem $5.00

Money has come for this emerging galloper and we think for good reason. Has just five starts to his name but from that has recorded two wins and two minor placings.

Has shown he can race in all conditions and was mighty impressive when belting his rivals by three lengths over the 1400m Autumn Stakes distance at Cranbourne on January 18.

Drawn ideally to get a lovely running position from barrier five.

The Placings

#3 Hvasstan $12.00 and High Shot bookmaker.com.au

Hvasstan was a super consistent performer during the spring and there’s no reason why he can’t back that up this time in work.

He might need a bit further but doesn’t seem to run a bad race. Won at Group 3 level during the spring and drawn well in barrier three with top jockey Craig Williams in the saddle.

High Shot is still raw, he has just one start to his name, but made a highly promising debut last year and is being touted as a big-race performer this autumn.
