2013 Rubition Stakes to Oakleigh Plate for Adebisi

Queensland gelding Adebisi will make his Melbourne debut in the Group 3 2013 Rubition Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday ahead of his major autumn goal in the Group 1 2013 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) on February 23.

The five-year-old has won two of his last three outings including an impressive last-start win in the Listed Razor Sharp Quality (1200m) at Warwick Farm on December 22.

A natural front-runner, the five-year-old has speed to burn and has won twice over the Rubition Stakes distance of 1100m.

Adebisi will be Forster’s first runner in Melbourne but the Brisbane trainer is confident she has him well prepared for the occasion.

“He’s been doing plenty of work in the Melbourne direction at home and has handled it well,” Forster told AAP.

The son of Shovhog has won nine of 32 starts including four times at stakes level.

In the Oakleigh Plate Adebisi will be out to become the second straight Queenslander to take out the $400,000 event after Robert Heathcote’s Woorim flashed home for victory last year.

But first he must get through this weekend’s hit-out for which he is currently a $3 favourite.

Followingly closely in the betting is Anthony Freedman’s consistent gelding Rescue Mission who has won twice and recorded two runner-up finishes from his past four starts.

Also high up in the market are Australia Stakes third Outlandish Lad ($4.20) and Group 3 winner Shanghai Warrior ($6).

Shanghai Warrior is reportedly over the illness that saw his spring end with some poor performances and is being set on a path towards the 2013 Doncaster Mile.
