He’s the least experienced runner in the field but punters have launched into Happy Galaxy who is a $3.20 favourite to win the Group 2 2013 Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday.
The three-year-old colt has only finished outside the top three once from seven starts and will be chasing a fourth consecutive win this weekend.
After climbing through the grades, the son of Nadeem was given his first black-type test in the Listed Zeditave Stakes at Caulfield on January 26 and he passed with flying colours.
The three-year-old put paid to a reasonable field to the tune of three lengths and now heads into Saturday’s Group 2 challenge at peak fitness.
Three-year-olds dominate the market, with Chris Waller’s recent stable addition Tougher Than Ever occupying the second line of betting at $4.80.
The former New Zealand galloper will be having his first start on Australian soil but brings solid credentials across the Tasman.
A Group 1 winner as a two-year-old in the Diamond Stakes, he was last seen running in the Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas where he finished a strong third behind Sacred Falls.
Occupying the third line of betting is Darley’s last-start winner Skytrain ($6) who is slightly ahead of Express Way Stakes veteran Centennial Park ($6.50).
Centennial Park will be lining up for his fourth straight Expressway Stakes , a race in which he has performed strongly.
The seven-year-old was fourth in 2010 before winning in 2011 and finishing second last year.
Also under double figures are Chris Waller’s Group 1-winning pair Albert The Fat ($8) and Danleigh ($9.50).
Albert The Fat is having his first trip to the races since a disappointing autumn campaign last year.
Others in the Expressway Stakes market include Willy Jimmy ($31), Jest Crewsin’ ($41) and Hurrara ($41).
