A fairly open betting market exists for the Group 2 2013 Autumn Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday which features a number of talented three-year-olds.
The current but slight favourite is Darley colt Knoydart ($3.50) who will have to bounce back from a fifth-place finish at Warwick Farm on January 26.
Prior to that the lightly-raced youngster created plenty of buzz when he stormed to a five-length win at Warwick Farm on January 9.
Just behind him in the betting is Michael Kent-trained colt High Shot ($4) who announced himself as a potential quality stayer last October with a strong debut win at Cranbourne.
The son of High Chaparral has not been seen on race day since but Kent was pleased with a trial at Werribee on Monday.
Mulaazem, from the stable of leading Victorian trainer Peter Moody, occupies the third line of betting at $5.50 and is coming off a three-length midweek win at Cranbourne on January 18.
Names that may be more familiar to the average punter are at slightly longer odds including Victoria Derby runner-up Super Cool ($8.50).
The Mark Kavanagh-trained gelding is the only other runner to feature under double figures with last-start winner Red Inca sitting at exactly $10.
At $11 is Hvasstan who rose to prominence during the spring with a win in the Group 3 Norman Robinson Stakes and a fourth-place finish in the Victoria Derby.
Darley colt Haussmann ($13) has only won once from 11 starts but is at full fitness for the hit-out, having finished in the top four in three recent starts.
The distance may be a touch short of ideal for Victoria Derby winner Fiveandahalfstar but he represents some value at $15.
Eye The World ($16) will need to turn around a disappointing last start while No Smoken is the long-shot outsider at $61.
Markets are now available on all this weekend’s exciting Caulfield action so head to bookmaker.com.au to back a winner.
