Expressway Stakes 2013 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

Ten horses will contest the $200,000 Group 2 2013 Expressway Stakes (1200m) which will take place as the feature race at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Danleigh is one of three Chris Waller-trained runners in the Expressway Stakes

Leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller has a strong presence with veteran Group 1 winners Albert The Fat and Danleigh joined by recent stable addition Tougher Than Ever.

Eight-year-old gelding Albert The Fat hasn’t been seen since a disappointing autumn campaign but is a dual Group 1 winner courtesy of victories in the 2010 BTC Cup and the 2011 Emirates Stakes.

At nine most horses are well past their best but Danleigh showed he still has a zest for racing during the spring when winning the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes.

Tougher Than Ever has only recently arrived at Waller’s Rosehill base from New Zealand but brings strong form across the Tasman.

A Group 1 winner as a two-year-old in the Diamond Stakes at Ellerslie, the three-year-old colt was most recently seen in November when he finished third in the Group 1 2000 Guineas.

Stepping up in class but in terrific form is team Hawkes-trained colt Happy Galaxy who will be chasing a fourth consecutive victory this weekend.

The son of Nadeem went back-to-back at Rosehill in early January before travelling to Caulfield to take out the Listed Zeditave Stakes by three lengths on January 26.

The promising colt has an outstanding early career resume of four wins and two minor placings from seven starts.

Warwick Farm trainer Guy Walter will have two representatives on his home track with Willy Jimmy and Doctor Doom.

Other horses in the Expressway Stakes field include Darley’s last-start winner Skytrain and 2011 winner Centennial Park.
