A talented line-up of juvenile fillies will face off in the females’ edition of the Blue Diamond Prelude 2013 in Melbourne this Saturday, a number of which are among the top fancies in the futures markets for the $1 million Group 1 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) back at Caulfield Racecourse at the end of the month.
Two Blue Diamond Preludes, one for the colts & geldings and one for the fillies, are part of a stellar CF Orr Stakes Day program this weekend the latter due to run as Caulfield Race 4 at 2:35pm (AEST).
The $150,000 Group 3 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Prelude (Fillies) (1100m) has drawn a final field of eight hopefuls, one more than the males’ race which runs one event before.
Heading the BD Fillies Prelude field is the Peter Snowden-trained Guelph who will be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy from a wide barrier seven draw.
Guelph is currently the $6 second favourite in the futures Blue Diamond Stakes odds behind undefeated Adelaide filly Miracles Of Life ($3.20) who is still yet to be officially nominated for the big feature on February 23.
The daughter of Exceed And Excel debuted last October with a second in the Gimcrack Stakes before resuming with a first-up win at Warwick Farm on January 26, Saturday’s race her first look at the 1100m and the Melbourne way of racing.
The next best fancied filly in the Blue Diamond Stakes betting markets that will look to improve her claims with a win in the Prelude is the fellow Darley-owned Montsegur (barrier five – Craig Williams).
Montsegur ($26) is also yet to be nominated for the million dollar Blue Diamond but will earn the $55,000 late entry payment if she scores an upset on Saturday returning to her winning form from Boxing Day, the New Approach filly out to improve on her sixth to Miracles Of Life in the Preview from Australia Day.
Three of the other Blue Diamond Prelude (Fillies) starters have also had an earlier career run including the Peter Moody-trained Quest For Peace who resumes racing here after finish fourth on debut to Blue Diamond bound colt Kuroshio in the Listed Herald Sun Superracing Stakes (1000m) at Flemington last October.
The other previous starters are then the David Hayes-trained Blue Palace to be ridden by apprentice hoop Chad Schofield from the inside alley and Mick Price’s Drifting Cube in barrier two.
Price, trainer of last year’s Blue Diamond Prelude – Blue Diamond Stakes winner Samaready, has also accepted for the unraced La Ballerine on Saturday, a Tapit filly he has a high opinion of.
Fellow debutants Godiva Rock and More Than Ameira then round out the Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude field for 2013.
