Samaready Confirmed for 2013 Black Caviar Lightning

Last year’s Blue Diamond Stakes winner Samaready is now a confirmed starter for the Group 1 2013 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington on February 16.

Samaready has been confirmed for a first-up test in the Black Caviar Lightning

The talented three-year-old had a solid jump-out at Caulfield this morning which was enough to convince trainer Mick Price she is ready to make her return to the track.

”Last week’s trial was probably better but she has now had two trials and is ready for the Lightning,” Price told Racing Victoria.

”It was the quickest trial of the morning and she was not out to have a smash out, hard trial.”

Like all trainers taking on Black Caviar, Price is not optimistic about ending the equine superstar’s unbeaten streak but believes it is the ideal race to begin Samaready’s 2013 Autumn Racing Carnival campaign.

After starring as a two-year-old the daughter of More Than Ready was restricted to just one start as a three-year-old during the spring where she finished fourth in the Listed Quezette Stakes.

As a juvenile she went through the first four starts of her career unbeaten including in the $1 million Blue Diamond before finishing third as favourite in the Golden Slipper.

Another horse due to take on Black Caviar in the Lightning is multiple Group 1 winner Ortensia who finished second in a trial at Rosehill this morning.

The Paul Messara-trained mare has not been since September when her overseas campaign ended in disappointing fashion when 12th in the Sprint Cup at Haydock.

Prior to that the seven-year-old had a successful international journey that included wins in the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai and both the Group 2 King George Stakes and Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes in the UK.

With the exciting autumn action beginning to heat up head to to back a winner at great odds.
