The Galaxy 2013 stands as the major 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival goal for Temple Of Boom who delivered trainer Tony Gollan his first Group 1 win in the race last year.
The Queensland trainer will hold off testing him in the early autumn sprints in Melbourne in an effort to chase wet tracks later in the autumn in Sydney.
At this stage the six-year-old is likely to kick off his campaign in the Group 2 2013 Challenge Stakes (1100m) at Warwick Farm on March 16 before going into the Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill second-up on March 30.
Gollan describes the Piccolo gelding as a “Listed or Group 3″ horse on top of the ground but a genuine Group 1 performer on wet surfaces.
Temple Of Boom has won 10 from 35 starts and has recorded another 10 minor placings for more than $1.1 million in prizemoney.
While Gollan will be hoping for rain in Sydney in March, he’s hoping the tracks stay dry in the early autumn for his other sprinter Spirit Of Boom.
The younger brother of Temple Of Boom will run in the Group 1 2013 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) first-up at Caulfield on February 23 and could also contest the Group 1 2013 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) and the Group 1 2013 William Reid Stakes.
Gollan is not concerned by his short turn around from a spring campaign that only finished in late November when he finished third in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes in Perth.
The son of Sequalo had a solid spring campaign without being able to cross the line in front.
Apart from the Perth result he was second in the Group 3 Bobbie Lewis, fourth in the Group 2 Shorts, third in the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes and second in the Group 2 Yellowglen Stakes.
His worst performance of the spring was a seventh-place finish in the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic.
