Strong 2013 Expressway Stakes Nominations Released

A strong list of nominations featuring a number of Group 1 winners has been announced for the Group 2 2013 Expressway Stakes (1200m) which will take place at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Albert The Fat

Albert The Fat is one several Group 1 winners nominated for the Expressway Stakes

The biggest name is without a doubt Caulfield Guineas winner All Too Hard but his appearance could be unlikely as he is also set to be nominated for the CF Orr Stakes at Caulfield.

Chris Waller has a strong presence in the race with the most interesting of his three entrants Group 1 winner Albert The Fat.

The eight-year-old hasn’t raced since a disappointing autumn campaign due to injury but is a genuine top-tier performer when at his best.

He has won 11 of 36 starts and more than $1.3 million mostly thanks to Group 1 wins in the 2010 BTC Cup and the 2011 Emirates Stakes.

Another Waller-trained veteran included in nominations is Danleigh who defied his nine years of age in the spring to win the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes.

The experienced galloper has 10 wins from 56 starts to his name and more than $2.4 million in stakes.

Joining the pair of old-stagers is recent stable addition Tougher Than Ever who brings strong form across from New Zealand.

The three-year-old colt is a Group 1 winner in New Zealand but is yet to step out on Australian soil.

Darley will be represented by consistent sprinter Pinwheel who made a strong start to his campaign when second in the Group 2 Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley on January 25.

The tough gelding has been successful in early season Group races in the past which was evident in August when he took out both the Group 3 Missile Stakes and Group 2 Warwick Stakes at Warwick Farm.

Others included in Express Way Stakes nominations are fellow Darley runner Skytrain, Guy Walter-trained pair Doctor Doom and Willy Jimmy and David Payne’s gelding Centennial Park.
