Darley filly Metastasio strengthened her claims as a 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes contender on Saturday when producing a dominant win in the Listed 2013 Chairman’s Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.
The exciting youngster was never challenged in the $120,000 sprint, winning by a comfortable three lengths with Kerrin McEvoy aboard.
Currently third favourite in Blue Diamond betting at $7, the Street Cry filly is not nominated but trainer Peter Snowden has given every indication the $55,000 late entry fee will be paid.
“She’s very talented, but she did a few things wrong…she can’t afford to do that when she meets the A-graders in the Diamond,” Snowden said.
It was the second victory in as many starts for Metastasio who was previously seen putting a 2 1/2 length gap on her rivals in the Nursery Plate at Flemington on January 19.
Despite her impressive performances to date, Snowden still has Guelph pegged as Darley’s number one Blue Diamond chance.
Guelph has had two starts for a second and a win with her one-length victory at Warwick Farm on January 26 a particularly impressive performance.
Guelph occupies the second line of betting in the Blue Diamond market at $6.
Current favourite is Adelaide filly Miracles Of Life who is at $3.20 despite connections also having to pay the late entry in order to gain a start.
The gun youngster has been untouchable in three starts to date, winning by big margins in Adelaide in the first two starts of her career before arriving in Melbourne to claim the Blue Diamond Fillies’ Preview by 4 1/2 lengths.
