Carlyon Cup 2013 Nominations Released

Thirteen horses have been nominated for the Group 3 2013 Carlyon Cup (1600m) which will take place as part of the exciting 2013 CF Orr Stakes Day card at Caulfield on Saturday.

Group 1 winner Invest has been nominated for the Carlyon Cup

A mixture of experienced horses and emerging gallopers have been entered for the $150,000 event including Group 1 winner Invest.

The four-year-old is coming off a first-up eighth in the John Dillon Stakes and is likely to have benefited from the run.

But she will still have to rediscover her winning ways which haven’t been seen since last winter when she took out the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks at Morphetville and the Group 3 Roses at Doomben.

Danny O’Brien’s French import Prairie Star will line up for just his third start on Australian soil after finishing fourth in both the Group 3 David Jones Cup and the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes at the Spring Carnival.

The son of Peintre Celebre was Group 1 placed in France and is likely to be given his chance in the top grade this autumn.

Another import nominated is Chris Waller’s gelding Foreteller who is coming off a runner-up finish at Warwick Farm on January 5.

Former Hong Kong star Good Baa Baa may be 11 years old but he has showed in two starts this campaign that he still has some zest for racing.

The Lear Fan gelding was fourth first-up in the Group 3 Standish Handicap and also finished fourth in the Kensington Stakes.

Darren Weir has entered consistent gelding Lord Of Brazil who won the Craftsman Handicap at Flemington on January 19 and has been victorious in three of his past four starts.

Others included in Carlyon Cup nominations are Gold Sand, Highly Recommended, Royal Mail and Zabiasco.
