With autumn just around the corner a number of quality horses are beginning to come back and that is definitely the case in the Listed 2013 Manfred Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Golden Rose runner-up Albrecht is a short-priced favourite at $1.85 to bring his spring Sydney success to Melbourne.
As far as the betting is concerned it looks a race in three with Greg Eurell’s colt Hosting the next best at $4 but only slightly ahead of Royal Haunt ($4.80).
Others in the market include Sheer Talent ($13), Force Command ($26), Shoreham ($26) and Calibrate ($61).
Unsure who to back in this three-year-old feature? Don’t worry, the Races.com.au form experts have been hard at work to bring you our very best selections.
#6 Hosting $4.00
With Albrecht going about at less than even money, happy to take the risk and put this untapped colt on top.
There’s been plenty of hype about Hosting since his 3 1/2 length debut win at Mornington at August and he was strong in a trial on January 21.
Small field so barrier seven not a concern and carries 56kg which is 2.5kg less than topweight Albrecht.
#1 Albrecht $1.85
Hard to write off the colt who will head Darley and Peter Snowden’s Australian Guineas charge.
Yet to finish outside the top three, Albrecht went within a neck of claiming Group 1 honours in the spring when defeated by stablemate Epaulette.
A proven stakes performer but has to overcome the sometimes tricky task of his first race in the Melbourne direction.
#4 Royal Haunt $4.80
Yes it’s boring to have three single-figure runners in the top three but it’s hard to deny the three we’ve selected.
Royal Haunt comes to the city for the first time with good credentials after a debut win at Echuca in December was backed up with a 2 1/2 length romp at Sale on January 17.
