Rebel Bride Heads 2013 Bow Mistress Trophy Field

The action of the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival steps up a notch at Hobart Racecourse this Sunday with the running of the Bow Mistress Trophy 2013, Leon Wells’ flying mare Rebel Bride heading the field for the much awaited black type.

Due to run as Race 8 on Sunday the $150,000 Group 3 Bow Mistress Trophy (1200m) has this year attracted a final field of 13 fillies and mares with Telesto five-year-old Rebel Bride to wear the number one saddlecloth in barrier seven with Stephen Maskiell aboard.

Maskiell was in the saddle on January 23 when Rebel Bride posted a nice win over Cellarmaster in the Listed Tattsbet.Com Stakes (1200m) at Launceston which was her second win on the trot and will be looking to get the job done again on Sunday.

It is shaping up as a stellar edition of the Bow Mistress Trophy in 2013 with a plethora of interstate visitors and five other last-start winners in the mix including the Mick Price-trained Tariana and David Hayes’ Rose Pattern.

Victorian-based Anabaa mare Tariana has suffered an early blow drawing the extreme outside gate with Craig Newitt engaged, the five-year-old last seen putting an easy 3.5 lengths on her rivals in a similarly conditioned event at Caulfield on January 5.

Redoute’s Choice four-year-old Rose Pattern meanwhile has drawn to perfection with barrier four, Steven Arnold to ride as she looks to extend her winning streak to four on the trot with her most recent win being over 1400m at Flemington on New Year’s Day.

Also drawn favourably is the Vicki Rhind-trained Bel Esprit mare Bel Price who hasn’t tasted defeat since February last year winning her past five runs.

Boasting six wins and three minor placings from 10 career starts to date Bel Price is certainly one of the most exciting sprinters getting around in Tasmania but she is yet to secure a black type win.

Last seen carrying 59kg to victory over 1100m at Hobart on January 20 she will look to change that and add a stakes victory to her record here.

The other last start winners are then the in-form My Temptation (barrier five) who has three consecutive wins behind them coming into this including two six length romps at the track over 1400m back in November , and the David & Scott Brunton-trained Magic Albert four-year-old Cambalara (barrier two) who will be ridden by Michelle Payne.

The Brunton’s have also accepted for Buzzing Along and Los Skybo.

Other notable hopefuls then include the Anthony Freedman-trained Mornignton raider Follonica and former star juvenile Rose Of ScotlandHugh Bowman’s mount drawn wide in barrier 10 as she vies for her first win since October last year.
