All Too Hard Tops 2013 Australian Guineas Betting Market

Caulfield Guineas winner All Too Hard is tipped to pick up in the autumn where he left off in the spring and is a clear favourite to win the Group 1 2013 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 2.

All Too Hard

All Too Hard is a clear favourite for the Australian Guineas

The star three-year-old is at $3.80 to add a second Group 1 title to his career resume in the Guineas after starring at the Spring Carnival.

As a half-brother to Black Caviar, All Too Hard has always attracted plenty of hype but it took him a long time to live up to it during the spring.

He was well beaten in three starts in Sydney before ending Pierro’s unbeaten streak in the Caulfield Guineas and ran second to Ocean Park in the Cox Plate.

Gai Waterhouse-trained runners occupy the next two spots in betting, with Proisir ($5) slightly ahead of Golden Slipper winner Pierro ($6.50).

Proisir has a lesser profile than All Too Hard and Pierro but signalled potential during his debut campaign when three consecutive victories were followed by a runner-up finish in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes and an eighth in the Cox Plate.

An interesting runner in the Guineas market that will be unknown to many Australian punters is New Zealand colt Sacred Falls ($9).

The son of O’Reilly is yet to race in Australia but is unbeaten in his home land from six starts including in the Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas in November.

A number of horses who emerged during the spring also feature towards the top end of the market including Darley-owned colt Albrecht ($12) and Bart Cummings-trained filly Norzita ($16).

Albrecht went close to snaring Group 1 honours when a narrow second to stablemate Epaulette in the Golden Rose while Norzita announced herself as one of the nation’s top fillies with victory in the Group 1 Flight Stakes.

Other notable horses in the Australian Guineas market include Greg Eurell’s highly-rated colt Hosting ($18), Victoria Derby runner-up Super Cool ($18), Michael Kent-trained pair Philippi ($21) and High Shot ($26) and Bart Cummings’ gelding Lunar Rise ($26).
