Nudgee Quality 2013 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

The final field has been announced for the Listed 2013 Nudgee Quality (1200m) which will take place at Doomben on Saturday.

Funtantes should appreciate a drop back in distance in the Nudgee Quality

Ten horses have been named to contest the $100,000 fillies and mares’ sprint which was originally scheduled to be run on Monday but was postponed due to poor weather in Queensland.

Just one horse has been allocated a weight above the 54kg minimum, with Robert Heathcote-trained mare Funtantes receiving 58kg.

By no means a mug in the wet, Funtantes will appreciate a drop back in distance after running eighth over 1300m in the Just Now Handicap.

Prior to the last-start failure the six-year-old had finished in the top three in three previous outings including a close third in the Listed Travel Associates Classic.

Set to return from a spell is Michael Lakey’s promising four-year-old Gypsy Pearl who won three of four starts at her last preparation.

If the track at Doomben fails to dry up by the weekend that is unlikely to trouble the Danzero mare who won a maiden by 10 lengths at Doomben on a heavy 8 in July.

Stepping up in class but bringing excellent form into the race is Gold Coast mare Little Brown Horse.

The Kelly Doughty-trained mare will chase a third consecutive win after a Gold Coast win in December was backed up with a win in a BM80 at Eagle Farm on January 12.

Another horse bringing strong form to Doomben this weekend is Todd Austin’s mare Playtime who backed up consecutive wins to score runner-up honours in the $200,000 Magic Millions Fillies and Mares Quality on January 12.

Others contesting the Nudgee Quality include Matt Dunn’s last-start winner Amalfi Dreams, Toowoomba mare Top Of The Rock and Koranovsky from Tony Gollan’s Eagle Farm stable.
