Albrecht Heads Manfred Stakes 2013 Final Field

Peter Snowden’s exciting Australian Guineas prospect Albrecht heads a select but impressive eight-horse field of three-year-olds that have been accepted for the 2013 Manfred Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday.

Albrecht is the headline acceptor for Saturday's Manfred Stakes 2013

Running as Race 3 at 2:05pm (local time), this year’s $120,000 TROA Supports National Jockeys’ Trust Manfred Stakes (1200m) is shaping up as an intriguing showdown with all the money likely to be on Redoute’s Choice colt Albrecht for their resuming run.

Winner of the Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes (1300m) back in August Albrecht backed up that good form with a devastatingly close second to stable mate Epaulette in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m).

They were last seen finishing runner-up again this time to Kabayan in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill in September before being turned out for a well-earned break to mature ahead of the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival.

Their first-up run is now scheduled for the Manfred with Albrecht heading towards the $500,000 Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington Racecourse on March 2.

Albrecht, in gate four for Saturday with Darley’s No. 1 rider Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle, currently occupies around the fifth line of Australian Guineas betting at a quote of about $13.

Following close in the futures Australian Guineas odds is then Hosting ($17) who looks to be a considerable danger to the favourite for Saturday’s race.

Greg Eurell’s up-and-coming Host colt debuted with a big 3.5 length victory at Mornington last August but injury cut their first prep off after just that one run.

Given time to recover Hosting looked back to full fitness winning a 1000m trial at Yarra Valley on January 21 when ridden by Craig Williams who will be in the saddle again on Saturday, Hosting due to jump from a wide gate seven draw.

Other early Australian Guineas 2013 hopefuls that will run in the Manfred Stakes include the Peter Moody-trained Royal Haunt (gate eight – Luke Nolen) who is undefeated to date having won at Echuca in December and Sale on January 17, Mark Kavanagh’s promising Redoute’s Choice colt Sheer Talent last seen running a close fifth when beaten only a length by Lady Of Harrods in the Group 3 HDF McNeil Stakes at the track in September, and the Tony Noonan-trained Calibrate having just their second start.
