Forty nine horses remain in contention for the Group 1 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) after the third round of declarations were released on Wednesday.

The cream is beginning to rise to the top as the $1 million two-year-old race approaches with time running out for horses to press their claims.

As expected Victorian trainers have the strongest presence for the February 23 Caulfield feature with David Hayes keeping 10 in contention.

Also in Moody’s contingent is Exceed and Excel colt Thermal Current who was third in the Listed Blue Diamond Colts and Geldings Preview at Caulfield on Saturday.

Moody is gunning for another Blue Diamond win after Reward For Effort saluted in 2009.

Another trainer chasing more Blue Diamond success is Mick Price who was victorious last year with Samaready.

Price has five gallopers still in contention including Choisir colt Resistance who won his most recent start at Caulfield on December 1.

One of the most hyped horses among the declarations is Stephen Theodore-trained cold Crack A Roadie who scored an astonishing debut win in the Inglis Banner Stakes in October and was a narrow runner-up in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate.

Connections of Blue Diamond Preview winners Miracles Of Life and Dissident will be forced to pay a late entry fee of $55,000 in order to gain a start in the glamour race.
