Classy Melbourne filly Samaready is likely to head to the 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival for a crack at some big Group 1 mares’ races including the 2013 Coolmore Classic (1500m) and the 2013 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m).
The talented three-year-old was restricted to just one spring start due to injury but showed she is completely over her troubles on Wednesday with a sharp 700-metre jump-out.
The former two-year-old star clocked a slick 41.37 seconds and was not even close to being challenged by her rivals.
Samaready had three months in the paddock following her spring injury which has seen the filly come back bigger and stronger.
Where exactly she makes her race-day return is still to be decided but it is likely to be either in a showdown with Australia’s equine superstar Black Caviar in the 2013 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) on February 16 or in the 2013 Oakleigh Plate (1200m) on February 23.
A daughter of top sire More Than Ready, the Mick Price-trained filly was one of the standout performers of last autumn, going unbeaten from her first four starts including in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes and the Group 2 Reisling Stakes.
She then started a short-priced favourite in the Golden Slipper and despite a wide barrier ran home strongly to finish in third position behind Pierro and Snitzerland.
Craig Newitt has ridden the still untapped galloper in all six of her career starts and said she is showing signs of the horse that starred as a juvenile.
”To ride her, she’s the filly that we know from her two-year-old days…that spell she had after the setback in the spring has definitely been the making of her,” Newitt said.
