A capacity field of sixteen fillies will line up...
This Saturday the first stakes racing action of February will take place in South Australia with the Queen Adelaide Stakes 2013 to run at Morphettville Racecourse.
A diminutive field of just five two-year-olds has been accepted for this year’s edition of the $80,000 Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes (1050m) which is due to run as Race 2 at 1:05pm.
Only two of the juveniles engaged in the Queen Adelaide Stakes field on Saturday have had a previous run with the Tony McEvoy-trained Topaque the sole winner.
The promising Bel Esprit filly debuted at Morphettville Parks on January 19 and blew away their competition with an eye-catching two length win which they will be looking to repeat on Saturday with Paul Gatt retaining the ride.
McEvoy has also accepted for the unraced Northern Meteor gelding McQueen who goes into the race, barrier four with Chris Symons, without an official trial and fellow debutant Hope And Libation who will jump from gate two with Dom Tourneur aboard as she looks to back up from a winning trial at the track in early January.
One of Adelaide’s premier horseman, McEvoy was excited to have interstate hoop Symons traveling to SA for the ride on McQueen.
“He’ll be a bit rusty, but I’m excited to have him riding for me,” McEvoy said.
“He rode work for a couple of days for me; he’s a good quality rider.”
The other horse with previous race experience along with the likely bookmaker.com.au favourite Topaque is then John Sadler’s Victorian raider Sworn Revenge in gate five with James Winks in the saddle.
Stratum filly Sworn Revenge was ridden by Glen Boss for her maiden run at Sandown Hillside back on January 16 over 900m where she was able to get the better of six rivals by a minimum one and three quarter lengths.
Saturday she will relish the drop back from 58.5kg to 54.5kg under the set weights conditions and will be right up there in the finish.
The unraced Mark Kavanagh-trained Street Cry filly Za Moulin Rouge then rounds out the Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2013 hopes drawn on the rails with Joe Bowditch to ride.
Za Moulin Rouge is a dual acceptor for the weekend also in the field for the first at Moonee Valley on Friday night, the $50,000 Sportingbet Handicap (1000m) where she would carry 57kg against nine rivals if she goes there.
