WJ Adams Stakes 2013 Nominations Released

Nominations have now been released for the Listed $120,000 2013 WJ Adams Stakes (1000m) which will take place as one of four stakes races on a strong Caulfield card this Saturday.

Just seven horses have been entered to contest the sprint but there are some quality entrants including Anthony Freedman-trained gelding First Command.

The seven-year-old has been in stellar form since kicking off his campaign in January, winning the Mal Seccull Handicap first-up before taking out the Listed Kensington Stakes.

Another experienced galloper included in nominations is Stephen Brown’s six-year-old Canali who surprised plenty at the Spring Carnival to run second at Group 2 level in the Caulfield Sprint.

The Exceed And Excel gelding is returning after a brief break after last being seen running fifth in the Nightingales Handicap at Caulfield in December.

Adelaide mare Avoid Lightning will again travel east after a strong first-up second in the Chandler Macleod Handicap at Moonee Valley on December 29.

The David Jolly-trained sprinter boasts an outstanding record of five wins and one minor placing from eight starts and ran a solid fourth in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes last August.

Lightly-raced gelding Rifleman will continue his return after a first-up win in a mid-week race at Sandown on January 16.

Anthony Freedman has entered three-year-old filly Diamond Earth but whether she lines up is still undecided as she has also been nominated for a race at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

No matter where she lines up Diamond Earth will have to bounce back from a horror first-up showing where she was beaten 16 lengths when last at Warwick Farm on January 5.

Others included in WJ Adams Stakes nominations are Gary Portelli-trained gelding Eight Bills and Kensington Stakes runner-up Light Express.
