No All Too Hard But Still Strong 2013 Manfred Stakes Nominations

The name All Too Hard may be missing from nominations for Saturday’s Listed 2013 Manfred Stakes (1200m) but that doesn’t mean there is a shortage of quality.

Albrecht

Albrecht forms part of a strong nominations list for the Manfred Stakes

There was a school of thought the Caulfield Guineas would kick off his 2013 Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival campaign this weekend but he was a notable absentee when entries closed on Tuesday.

Nineteen horses have been nominated for the three-year-old sprint including plenty of names that would be known to even the casual weekend racing fan.

Darley’s number one 2013 Australian Guineas contender Albrecht is one of the top nominees for what will be his first start since a successful debut campaign in the spring.

The Redoute’s Choice colt won the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes and finished runner-up in both the Group 1 Golden Rose and the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes.

Legendary trainer Bart Cummings has entered Norzita and Lunar Rise who both signalled plenty of potential during the spring.

Norzita was a Group 1 winner in the Flight Stakes while Lunar Rise took out the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes at Flemington and finished second in the Sandown Guineas.

Punters will see how Hosting and Wales come back after both were impressive debut winners last year.

The Lloyd Williams-owned Wales has not raced since April when he debuted as a two-year-old to win the Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes.

Hosting had plenty spruiking his spring credentials after a 3 1/2 length debut win at Mornington in August but injury quickly ended those hopes and he went to the paddock to prepare for the autumn.

Others included in Manfred Stakes nominations are Peter Moody’s last-start winner Tan Tat Rock and Anthony Freedman-trained colt Chosen Moment.
