Mornington Cup Prelude 2013 Nominations

A large nominations list has been announced for the Listed 2013 Mornington Cup Prelude (2000m) which will take place at Caulfield on Saturday.

A decent 24-horse group of horses have been entered for the $120,000 event which gives runners a chance to press their claims ahead of the 2013 Mornington Cup on February 13.

As far as country cups go the Mornington Cup is one of the biggest partly due to the fact it offers Caulfield Cup ballot exemption to the winner.

While the cream of Australia’s staying crop won’t be involved in the Mornington Cup Prelude, there are number of proven stakes horses in the mix.

One of those is Sam Pritchard-Gordon’s seven-year-old gelding Buxted who took out the Listed JRA Stakes at Moonee Valley during the Spring Carnival.

The son of Dynaformer is considered to be an out-and-out stayer and will have taken plenty of benefit out of a first-up run at Flemington on January 19.

Also entered is 2011 Cranbourne Cup winner Boom ‘N’ Zoom who started his campaign off in promising fashion when third in the Comedy King Handicap (1600m) at Flemington on January 12.

Queensland gelding Bid Spotter will make the trip south after a solid third behind Kinnsersley in the Magic Millions Stayers Cup on January 12 at the Gold Coast.

Bringing excellent form into the race is Ballarat-based gelding Tuscan Fire who has put together two consecutive victories at Flemington in January and hasn’t finished outside the top two in his past four starts.

Leading Victorian trainer Peter Moody has entered Elusive King who will be out to convert strong runs into victory after finishing in the minor placing sin his past three starts.

Also included in Mornington Cup Prelude nominations are Darren Weir’s consistent gelding Hurdy Gurdy Man, Danny O’Brien-trained gelding Kutchinisky and Anthony Freedman’s European import Brehat.
