Two Gai Waterhouse-trained runners head a very open betting market for the Listed $100,000 2013 Australia Day Cup (2400m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday.
Despite drawing wide in barrier 14 Reuben Percival is bookmaker.com.au favourite at $4.20 after a strong runner-up performance in the Gosford Cup earlier this month.
Lightly-raced gelding Travolta finished slightly behind his stablemate when third in the Gosford Cup and is just behind him in the betting at $5.50.
The four-year-old has been in solid form this campaign, recording two wins from four outings.
Darley pair Angelus ($8) and Yulalona ($9) are the only other two runners under double figures.
For-year-old mare Angelus brings good form into the race after a two-length win at Warwick Farm in December was backed up with a third-place finish in the Listed Tattersall’s Club Cup on new Year’s Day.
Yulalona will need to improve from her fifth-place performance in the Gosford Cup but has shown she is up to black-type level before with victory in the Group 3 Summer Cup in 2011.
Both Shadows In The Sun ($12) and Ironstein ($12) will also need to improve but both have shown their ability in stakes company previously.
Shadows In The Sun won the Group 1 SA Derby in 2011 and looked to be searching for more distance last start when fourth in the Tatersall’s Club Cup.
Ironstein was well below his best when 10th in the Gosford Cup but is coming off a Spring Carnival where he placed three times at Group level.
Nine-year-old Fimuicino ($14) offers some value for the punters and prior to finishing seventh in the Gosford Cup he was third in the Christmas Cup and won the ATC Cup.
