Peter Snowden’s Australian Guineas 2013 bound colt Albrecht will step up their work with a Flemington jumpout this Friday as the Group 1 performer prepares to make their autumn return.
The Redoute’s Choice three-year-old enjoyed a consistent first prep recording two wins and three minor placings from five starts last season including a Group 3 victory and a Group 1 second.
Taking out the Up & Coming Stakes at start number three at Warwick Farm in August Albrecht was just nudged out of an elite level title when running a brave second to stable-mate Epaulette in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) in September.
They backed up a fortnight later but ran second again this time as the beaten favourite behind Kabayan in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) and have been in the paddock since.
Progressing well behind the scenes Snowden is convinced Albrecht can add more black type to their record this time in, their major autumn aim at this stage being the $600,000 Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 2.
Albrecht has been preparing for his Victorian jumpout having arrived in Melbourne last week and is set to go first-up into the $120,000 Listed Manfred Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 2 which will give connections an idea of their Australian Guineas claims.
“He has a jumpout at Flemington on Friday,” Snowden said.
“I saw him in Sydney last time in and he’s a bigger and stronger horse than last preparation, that’s for sure.
“He’s got a lot of talent and hopefully we can get to the top with him this time in.”
