Streama Given 2013 Doncaster Mile Assignment

Dual Group 1 winner Streama will be given her toughest assignment yet this autumn when she contests the Group 1 2013 Doncaster Mile (1600m).


Streama will have a five-start autumn campaign culminating with the Doncaster in April

The Doncaster stands as the “grand final” in a 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival preparation that will begin at Warwick Farm on February 23.

“There is a 1200m race here [Warwick Farm] on the 23rd,” trainer Guy Walter told Sky Sports Radio.

After the first-up hit-out Streama will contest either the Listed 2013 Wiggle Handicap (1400m) or the Group 3 2013 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) at Warwick Farm on March 9 before stepping up to Group 1 level in the 2013 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 23.

There will be three Group 1 targets on her autumn agenda as she will also contest the 2013 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m) on April 6 before the final goal of the Doncaster on April 20.

Streama was one of the shining lights of last year’s Autumn Carnival, winning the Group 1 Australian Stakes and Group 2 Surround Stakes and finishing in the minor placings in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes and the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes.

While she couldn’t quite replicate that success during Australia’s premier racing period at the Spring Carnival she still recorded some strong performances including a victory in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes.

Walter is happy with how the Stratum mare has come back from her time in the paddock and she will trial at Warwick Farm next Friday.

“She looks great and has really filled out,” Walter said.

Joining Streama on a similar autumn campaign is Group 1-winning stablemate Appearance who produced an upset performance to claim the Myer Classic at the Spring Carnival in November.

The four-year-old does not have close to the profile of Streama but has shown plenty of potential during her career so far with four wins from nine starts.
