Nudgee Quality 2013 Nominations Released

Nominations have been released for the Listed $100,000 2013 Nudgee Quality (1200m) which will take place at Doomben on Monday.

Funtantes tops nominations for the Nudgee Quality

Restricted to fillies and mares, 14 horses have been entered for the public holiday feature including Robert Heathcote-trained mare Funtantes.

The six-year-old is a dual stakes winner and while she’ll have to bounce back from an eighth-place finish in the Just Now Handicap (1300m), she returns to her most favourable distance on Monday.

The daughter of Easy Rocking has won seven of 39 starts and five of those victories have come over the Nudgee Quality distance of 1200m.

Set to return from a spell is Michael Lakey’s four-year-old Gypsy Pearl who won three of four starts last preparation.

While she faces a step up in class on Monday she showed last year an impressive ability to climb through the grades after winning a maiden in the first start of her campaign.

Returning to Brisbane after a brief trip back to her home track of Toowoomba is former spruik horse Bradbury Chocolate who finished second over 1200m at Toowoomba on January 5.

The Donald Baker-trained mare attracted plenty of attention last year after she dominated country and provincial tracks to be unbeaten from her first six starts.

She then came to the city and produced a remarkable last-to-first win to take that streak to seven but has been unable to taste success since that day.

Tony Gollan has entered Koranovsky who finished third at her last start in a BM85 at Eagle Farm and Monday will be her first test at stakes level.

Other horses nominated for the Nudgee Quality include Patinack-owned filly Sookie, Steele Ryan’s Jasminka and Toowoomba mare Top Of The Rock.
