Brilliant Bisc Earns Golden Slipper 2013 Bid

A blistering trial performance from Peter Moody’s Gimcrack Stakes winner Brilliant Bisc has affirmed plans to target the young filly at the 2013 Golden Slipper this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Brilliant Bisc

Upset Gimcrack Stakes winner Briliant Bisc will be set on the 2013 Golden Slipper path this autumn

The two-year-old daughter of Elvstroem debuted at Randwick back in early October last year and hit the headlines from the get-go putting an easy one and quarter lengths on runner-up Guelph in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) after leading all-the-way scoring an upset as a $40 roughie.

Sent for a spell to recover and mature ahead of the autumn Brilliant Bisc made her first appearance since her successful debut on Tuesday at the Rosehill trials.

Reigniting the hype surrounding the modest $11,000 purchase from the 2011 William Inglis Australian Weanling & Bloodstock Sales, Brilliant Bisc made a mess of her rivals again this time beating home the Gerald Ryan-trained Snitzel’s Jewel by two lengths over 900m in a sharp 54.10 seconds.

Connections were impressed with the hitout saying she was ready for an autumn campaign that could culminate with a run in the world’s richest two-year-olds’ race, the $3.5 million Group 1 AAMI Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on April 6.

“She’s come back in great order but still has another barrier trial to go before we map out an exact program,” Moody’s racing manager, Jeff O’Connor said.

“We’re looking at a Slipper start and that’s what we’re likely to be concentrating on.”

The Listed Widden Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on February 16 has been named as the likely resuming run for Brilliant Bisc.

“Or she could kick off a week earlier. It will depend on her next trial and how she comes through it,” O’Connor added.

Golden Slipper 2013 second acceptances are due for release Tuesday February 5 which will narrow down the list of youngsters heading towards the lucrative clash.
