Australia Day Cup 2013 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

A 14-horse field featuring a mixture of youth and experience will contest the Listed 2013 Australia Day Cup (2400m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Gai Waterhouse has accepted with four of her charges with the contingent headed by tough stayer Reuben Percival.

The Group 1 placegetter ran second in the Gosford Cup first-up but has his work cut out this weekend after drawing wide in barrier 14.

The six-year-old will carry 57.5kg while stablemate Tullamore has the hefty task of lugging the topweight of 59kg.

A minor placegetter in the 2011 Caulfield Cup, Tullamore has not finished better than sixth in six starts since but should appreciate a step up in distance after running last  over 1400m at Warwick Farm first-up.

Waterhouse’s other runners in the Australia Day Cup are last-start third Travolta and four-year-old gelding Power Broker.

Former Queenslander Carry Me Bluey will be having his first start in his new state after trainer Norm Hilton shifted base from Toowoomba to Newcastle.

The five-year-old brings good form south with him after winning the Channel Seven BM90 Handicap at Eagle Farm on January 5.

Gerald Ryan’s veteran gelding Ironstein will line up for his 49th start but will have to show a quick form turnaround if he is to be successful after finishing 10th in the Gosford Cup on January 10.

Another old stager in the Australia Day Cup is nine-year-old Fimucino who prior to finishing seventh in the Gosford Cup had been in solid form.

The team Hawkes-trained gelding won the Listed ATC Cup on December 1 and finished third in the Listed Christmas Cup two weeks later.

Others contesting the Australia Day Cup include last-start winner Stealapipe, Chris Waller-trained gelding Lucripetious and Darley pair Yulalona and Angelus.

Betting will open over the next couple of days on all the Australia Day action and will have outstanding odds.

There has never been a better time to sign up to the Australian-owned bookie as they are currently offering a $400 bonus bet offer to customers who sign up quoting the code BONUSBET.
