Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Chris Waller’s multiple Group winner Red Tracer kicked off her autumn campaign in a Rosehill trial on Tuesday morning as she prepares to head towards the 2013 Coolmore Classic in March.
The now five-year-old daughter of Dane Shadow has won nine of her 22 career starts to date including a trio of Group race victories the most recent of which was a first-up success in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick during the spring.
Last seen running a disappointing 10th to Appearance in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Red Tracer had her first official hitout of the New Year today.
While on paper her sixth, beating home just one other runner, wasn’t great it was a start.
Waller will send her on an almost identical Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival campaign in 2013 as he did with her last year, her resuming run scheduled as the $175,000 Group 2 Breeders’ Classic (1200m) at Warwick Farm on February 16, an event she ran a good third to Steps In Time in last year.
From there a title defense in the $125,000 Group 3 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 2, which Red Tracer won by 2.5 lengths on a bog track last autumn, will lead into the $600,000 Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) third-up back at ‘The Gardens’ on March 23.
Third in the Epsom Handicap to Secret Admirer in the spring of 2011, known mudlark Red Tracer failed to back up from her Millie Fox win in last year’s Coolmore running ninth to Ofcourseican, an effort Waller hopes she can improve on this time in.
“She will start out in the Breeders’ Classic and go to the Coolmore at her third run in,” Waller said.
“I’ve ordered rain for her.”
Another older mare that ran in the same Sydney trial this morning for Waller who is 2013 Coolmore Classic bound was Nocturnelle, fifth in the hit-out, who will target the same races as her better preformed stablemate.
“Nocturnelle will follow the same path (as Red Tracer),” Waller confirmed.
The Elusive Quality four-year-old boasts an outstandingly consistent record of six wins and three minor placings from 12 starts so far including back-to-back black type victories last campaign having won the Listed Tibbie Stakes (1400m) at Newcastle in September and then the Listed TAB Angst Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill in October.
Also in the same jumpout was Randwick Guineas runner-up Said Com who was fourth behind the winner Messene over the 900m.
