Australia’s darling of the turf Black Caviar is back. The world’s best sprinter showed more promising signs she will make a successful comeback at the 2013 Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival when producing a dominant jumpout performance at Sandown this morning.
The unbeaten superstar produced a slick display of galloping, hitting the front at the top of the straight and cruising home in a fast time.
“Had my first jump out this morning at Sandown. Jumped from a wide barrier, took lead at top of straight and won comfortably in fast time,” the official Black Caviar twitter account said.
The news will leave racing fans across the nation excited as it is a good indicator she will be ready to make her return in the Group 1 2013 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington on February 16.
The glamour mare has clearly made a strong recovery from the muscle tears picked up during her thrilling Diamond Jubilee Stakes win at Royal Ascot in June.
Punters will get the chance to have an early look at the glamour mare when she has an exhibition gallop at Caulfield on February 2.
While the Lightning is the main aim at this stage, the winner of 22 undefeated starts will be among nominations for the 2013 Newmarket Handicap when they are announced today.
However, the likelihood of her lining up in the $1 million handicap on March 9 seem slim given she is expected to be allocated at least 61.5kg.
That was the weight Black Caviar received last year, although she did not line up, and she has since won the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes and the Goodwood as well as the Diamond Jubilee.
