Waterhouse Dominates 2013 Australia Day Cup Nominations

Nominations for Saturday’s Listed 2013 Australia Day Cup (2400m) have a strong Gai Waterhouse presence with the top Sydney trainer entering four of her charges.

Reuben Percival

A total of 19 horses have been entered for the Warwick Farm feature and Waterhouse’s Reuben Percival is one of the top nominees.

The six-year-old, who placed at Group 1 level in the Metropolitan during the spring, made a strong start to his campaign when runner-up to Moriarty in the Gosford Cup on January 10.

Stablemate Tullamore will appreciate the step up in distance after finishing last over 1400m at Warwick Farm earlier this month.

Other Waterhouse-trained entrants include Gosford Cup third placegetter Travolta and lightly-raced gelding Power Broker.

Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller has nominated three gallopers, with imports Marden and Secessio joined by last-start runner-up Lucripetous.

Having his first start in his new state will be Carry Me Bluey whose trainer Norm Hilton recently relocated from Toowoomba to Newcastle.

The five-year-old gelding will be out to score back-to-back wins after flying home to win his last start at Eagle Farm in a BM90 handicap over 2100m.

Representing Gerald Ryan is veteran gelding Ironstein who will need to show a sharp form turnaround after finishing 10th first-up in the Gosford Cup.

The seven-year-old was a consistent performer during the spring, placing three times at Group level.

Another veteran in the field is former BMW winner Fiumicino who is coming off a seventh-place finish in the Gosford Cup.

The nine-year-old showed he is not done yet in December when winning the Listed ATC Cup at Warwick Farm.

Other nominations for the Australia Day Cup include Darley-owner galloper Yulalona, Melbourne gelding Macedonian and Anthony Cummings-trained gelding Shadows In The Sun.
