2013 Blue Diamond Preview (Colts & Geldings) Nominations

A field bursting full of promising juveniles make up the early nominations for Saturday’s Blue Diamond Preview 2013 for colts and geldings at Caulfield Racecourse which serves as a nice lead-up race to the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) back at the track next month.

Fifteen youngsters make up the early entries for the $120,000 Listed Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Preview (C&G) (1000m) which runs alongside the fillies’ equivalent this weekend leading up to the big one on February 23.

Of the nominees in the colts and geldings race just seven have previous race experience with only three of those having secured a win.

Leading the ballot is the Peter Snowden-trained Kuroshio, the Exceed And Excel colt already a black type winner after taking out the Listed Herald Sun Superracing Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on debut last October.

They backed up from that run in the Listed Inglis Debutants Stakes (1000m) but failed to fire as the short priced favourite when third to Villa Verde but remain a steady chance for the Blue Diamond Stakes paying $26 in the markets at bookmaker.com.au.

The other BD Preview hopefuls that have won before are then Jason Warren’s last start Werribee winner Magnaro and Bendigo galloper Mal’s Pride, neither of which feature in the official Blue Diamond Stakes nominations.

Surprisingly the bulk of the young gallopers in the race are not currently nominated for the Blue Diamond Stakes 2013.

Of those that are nominated the next best fancied in the latest Blue Diamond Stakes odds following Kuroshio are then the David Hayes-trained Flying Spur colt I Am Titanium ($31), and the Peter Moody-trained duo of Thermal Current ($34) coming off an impressive second on debut at Flemington and Wild Fire ($51) the latter of which debuts in the BD Preview.

Moody is sure to play a strong hand in the race having also nominated for unraced Dissident and State Of Mind.

The 2013 Blue Diamond Colts & Geldings Preview field and barriers are due out on Wednesday and will be published here at Races.com.au.

In the meantime check out the futures Blue Diamond Stakes betting markets open at bookmaker.com.au to get in on the action of the Group 1 before markets firm.
