Early 2013 Golden Slipper (1200m) fancy Villa Verde will have just two starts at the 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival with trainer Shaun Dwyer keeping one eye on the future with the exciting filly.
The daughter of Not A Single Doubt will be kept at her Bendigo base for as long as possible before travelling to Sydney to contest the Group 2 2013 Reisling Stakes (1200m) on March 23 and the major goal of the Slipper on April 6.
“It’s a good situation to be in to have a horse like this,” Dwyer told Radio Sports National
“We’ll keep her here as long as we can. She’s working the opposite way on the inside track and she’ll have two jumpouts the opposite way.
“She’s a lovely relaxed horse…she’s just so easy to do anything with. She’s just got everything going for which makes things very easy.”
Dwyer will resist the temptation to push her too hard too early and is hopeful she can deliver results for him and connections for many years to come.
“I think that’s enough [the two starts] for two-year-olds,” he said.
The Bendigo trainer has been pleased with her work so far and is confident she is well and truly on track towards the world’s richest two-year-old race.
“She’s got a good mass of muscle on her. Because she doesn’t ‘t really get fat she maintains that muscle and she doesn’t take a lot of work,” Dwyer said.
Villa Verde made an outstanding entrance to the racing world last spring, scoring a 1 1/2 length win on debut in the Listed Debutants Stakes at Caulfield in October and backing up to win the Listed 7News Plate at Flemington by three lengths three weeks later.
Michael Rodd was aboard for both starts and Dwyer confirmed the association would continue in the autumn.
“Why would you take Roddy off? He’s one of the best in the world,” Dwyer said.
