Raw colt Hosting will trial on Monday before embarking on a 2013 Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival campaign that will be geared towards the Group 1 2013 Australian Guineas (1600m).
The Greg Eurell-trained galloper has had just one career start to date but made plenty take note when he stormed home for a 3 1/2 length win at Mornington last August.
Eurell has pencilled in the Australian Guineas, which will take place on March 2 at Flemington, as the major goal following two lead-up runs.
“That’s the race [Australian Guineas] we’d like to sort of head in that direction,” Eurell told Sky Sports Radio.
Provided all goes well at the trial, Eurell said the the son of Host is progressing positively to a first-up race in the Listed 2013 Manfred Stakes (1200m) on February 2 at Caulfield.
“At this stage everything is going along very smoothly,” he said.
“He’s a very, very nice colt…he’s well balanced and well put together.”
While the Cranbourne trainer is focusing on his Australian campaign, he hasn’t ruled out a trip to the 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and Hosting is one of 190 horses included in initial 2013 Doncaster Mile nominations.
“If that part [Melbourne] of the campaign was successful we’ve got the opportunity to ease up just a touch and then head up to Sydney,” Eurell said.
Fellow Eurell-trained three-year-old Love For Ransom has suffered a minor injury setback and he said it is unlikely the Red Ransom filly be seen at least until the latter part of the autumn in Sydney.
“There’s a strong possibility she’ll run in the latter part of the autumn but at this stage we’ve just got to take the foot off the gas a bit,” he said.
