When Crack A Roadie made a much-hyped debut last spring his ability was obvious and trainer Stephen Theodore believes he will only come back bigger and better at the 2013 Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival.
Theodore did not keep his thoughts on the two-year-old quiet before the first run of his career in the $255,000 Inglis Banner Stakes in October and he lived up to expectations with a stunning finish to fly home from the back and claim a tight win at Moonee Valley.
The son of Charge Forward then backed up in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate at Fleminton in early November where he again showed sheer talent to finish runner-up by a short head.
While it is never certain that horses will return at the same level or better in their next preparation, Theodore is confident the exciting colt is right on track for his first-up test in the 2013 Inglis Premier (1200m) at Mornington on February 13.
“He’s put weight on in the right places. He almost looks like a three-year-old,” Theodore said.
“This time in he is a well educated horse and hopefully he can take the next step.”
Crack A Roadie will have a three-start campaign that could include the 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) before finishing in the Group 2 2013 Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on March 9.
He currently sits on the third line of betting for the Blue Diamond at $15 which stands as the biggest two-year-old race held in Melbourne.
Craig Williams was aboard the juvenile during his debut campaign and Theodore is hopeful he will keep the combination going this autumn.
“I’m hoping Craig will come down in the coming weeks and have a trial on him,” Thedore said.
The Blue Diamond Stakes will take place on February 23 at Flemington.
