Single Ready To Perform Following Injury Setback

Single will make his racing return when he lines up in the Rosehill Gardens Handicap at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this Saturday January 19, 2013.

The five-year-old gelding will be having his first taste of race day action since undergoing an operation to correct a fracture in his off-hind fetlock and cannon bone.

After a lengthy nine month spell on the sidelines, the High Chaparral is back and ready to undertake an autumn racing carnival campaign.

Trainer Craig Carmody told of the unusual circumstances surrounding Single’s leg injury.

“We’re not sure how he did it. He was fine the Thursday morning before the Doncaster and he walked home from the track lame,” Carmody said.

“He had four months off and he’s had a really good grounding. He’s had about three-and-a-half months’ worth of work leading into this.

“He’s come through it really well.”

Single has won six of his 10 race starts and has earned more $245,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.

The galloper’s most recent result was a win in the Listed Sky High Stakes at Rosehill in March last year.

Carmody ecpects the gelding to be even better this time around.

“He was just a bit immature last time and I had to space his runs vigilantly and be careful with him after he ran because he’d drop away on you,” he said.

“But he’s holding together much better so far.

“I’ve been really encouraged by how he’s come through all his trials and his work so far but the proof in the pudding is on race day.”

Single has already been nominated for the Group 1 Doncaster Mile, which will take place at Royal Randwick racecourse on April 20, 2013.
