Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Jockey Michelle Payne will return to racing in Hobart this Sunday after suffering spinal injuries close to four months ago.
Payne fractured her T5 and T6 vertebrae in her back during a horror race fall at Aararat Racecourse and has been forced to sit on the sidelines while her injury healed.
Now fully recovered, Payne is hoping to begin her comeback on a high as she takes the mount aboard Fieldmaster in the Summer Cup at Hobart this weekend.
Fieldmaster won his last start in the $100,000 Devonport Cup on January 9, 2013, and is expected to start favourite for Sunday’s Summer Cup.
Payne revealed she is not nervous to get back to riding after spending so long away from the sport.
“I’m not really put off by the injuries,” she said.
“I just think that hopefully my bad luck is out of the way and I’m just really excited to get back out there.”
The jockey is confident Fieldmaster can continue his successful summer racing campaign in the Summer Cup 2013.
A win would be made even sweeter due to the fact Payne has been recovering at her brother’s property in Tasmanian for the past fortnight.
“He needs to race on Sunday to keep his fitness up,” Payne said.
“Spending a bit of time with the horses here in Tasmania for the past couple of weeks will make (Sunday) a bit more special, I think.”
