Darren Kenny’s smart Snippetson gelding Kenjorwood chases their breakthrough stakes win when they lead out a quality field of fellow three-year-olds in Sunday’s 2013 Hobart Guineas.
Headlining the first official meeting of the 2013 Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival, the $90,000 Listed Hobart Guineas (2100m) this year has drawn a final field of 10 hopefuls with Kenjorwood to wear the No. 1 saddlecloth.
Drawn in gate seven with Craig Newitt to ride the promising youngster hasn’t won a race since their successful debut at Launceston back in November of 2011.
They have however continued to race well over their subsequent eight outings most recently running a good second to Mister John in the Listed Tasmanian Guineas over the mile on January 2.
Also coming via a placing in the Tasmanian Guineas is the David & Scott Brunton-trained What Life Brings (3rd), the Savoire Vivre gelding looking for their second career win after a SuperVOBIS Tas Plate win back in November.
There are then three last start winners in the Hobart Guineas field this weekend including the Gary White-trained duo of Ollie’s Gold who will jump from gate three on Saturday and Alarmist out wide in barrier 10.
Promontory Gold three-year-old Ollie’s Gold, who was a disappointing ninth in the Tasmanian Guineas two back, saluted in their second win from their past three starts on January 13 over 1400m at Hobart and will shoot for another on a short back-up.
Alarmist meanwhile enjoyed a win over the same track and distance at the same meeting, the Clangalang gelding taking out their race by an impressive four lengths.
The other horse chasing back-to-back wins is then the Troy Blacker-trained Keukenhof who put an easy four and a half lengths on their closest rival at Longford over 1400m on New Year’s Day.
Other notable Hobart Guineas hopefuls in 2013 include recent Hobart winner Keep The Cash looking to improve on their Tasmanian Guineas 10th, and the John Luttrell-trained Josies Gee Gee.
