Ms Funovits Chance for Golden Slipper 2013 Assault

Malua Racing’s ace trainer John Sadler’s promising young filly Ms Funovits may have earned herself a 2013 Golden Slipper assignment after a successful debut at Flemington on the weekend.

Sadler is now weighing up the options with the Reset two-year-old who scored a tight win with Glen Boss in the saddle in the $80,000 Better Beyond Plate (1000m) on the weekend, Ms Funovits to either be spelled for a short break ahead of the world’s richest race for juveniles this autumn or raced once more before being turned out until the spring.

Sadler is hoping Ms Funovits’ first-up effort will be an indication of what she’s capable of in her two-year-old season with the $3.5 million Group 1 AAMI Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on April 6 possibly on the cards.

“She’ll either go to the paddock now and have a short spell before being targeted at the Golden Slipper, or she’ll go to Adelaide in three weeks’ time for a Listed race and then go straight to the paddock until the spring,” Sadler said on Monday.

“She’s pulled up really well this morning, she’s eaten her feed and seems to have recovered physically very well but we’ll get a better idea over the coming days.

“At this stage it all seems good and we’ll just make the decision which way we go in a few days’ time.”

The South Australian option would be the $80,000 Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on February 2 which may be a good chance for Ms Funovits to add some black type to her name ahead of the bigger spring features.

“If we do press on it will be just for that one run aimed at getting that bit of black-type under her belt early because you never know what can happen down the track,” Sadler said.

There are currently 1090 youngsters making up the Golden Slipper 2013 entries with second acceptances to be taken on Tuesday February 5.
