Danleigh to Chase Another Title in 2013 Chipping Norton Stakes

Chris Waller’s veteran gelding Danleigh will saddle up for another campaign at the 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival where he will chase a second title in the Group 1 2013 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m).

Danleigh will race in the Chipping Norton Stakes for the fourth time this year.

The nine-year-old took out the Warwick Farm feature in 2011 before finishing runner-up to stablemate Shoot Out last year.

From three attempts in the Chipping Norton, Danleigh has recorded three outstanding performances, having also finished third in 2010.

The Group 1 mile on March 9 stands as his major goal but he will have two lead-up races in the Group 2 2013 Expressway Stakes (1200m) and the Group 2 2013 Apollo Stakes (1400m) in February.

Waller said the son of Mujahid is “quite forward” and will trial at Warwick Farm on Tuesday.

Danleigh is also likely to be entered fro the 2013 Doncaster Mile (1600m) along with Shoot Out.

Despite his age, Danleigh showed he still has both the zest and ability for racing during the spring when he won the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes and finished third in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes.

The experienced galloper has raced 56 times for 10 wins and 17 minor placings and won more than $2.4 million in prizemoney.

The 2011 Chipping Norton victory was one of of four at the top level, with other highlights coming in the 2009 All Aged Stakes and Manikato Stakes and the 2010 George Ryder Stakes.

Fellow Waller-trained veteran Rangirangdoo will play no role in the autumn and will instead be aimed at the 2013 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

Now eight, Rangirangdoo also showed he has some good racing left in him last spring when finishing second in the Group 1 George Main Stakes and the Group 2 Crystal Mile.
