Dual Group 1 winner Sincero will play no part in the 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival after succumbing to a ligament injury.
While the injury is only minor and does not threaten his racing career, trainer Stephen Farley and connections decided to take a precautionary approach with the belief that he still has plenty of racing in his future.
The decision comes even though vet advice was that the injury could be treated and he could push on through the autumn where he was likely to be aimed at the Group 1 2013 George Ryder Stakes.
“My vet told me we could needle it and keep going however I think long term it is better taking the precaution and rest him,” Farley said.
“The consensus amongst the owners is that the horse comes first. All had the horses future in mind and wanted to rest him.”
Still just five, the decision to rest Sincero in the autumn will allow him to build up for a strong 2013 Melbourne Spring Carnival campaign.
The son of Umatilla is a popular galloper in the racing community partly due to the fact he was bought for just $8,000 as a yearling.
He had a solid Spring Carnival where he won the Group 2 Memsie Stakes, finished fifth in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes and third in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes.
The performances earned him a start in the Cox Plate field where he struggled to make an impact and eventually finished ninth and 6 1/2 lengths behind winner Ocean Park.
His career record stands at 12 wins from 26 starts for more than $1.7 million in prizemoney.
Highlight victories include the Group 1 George Main Stakes and the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap which both occured in 2011.
