Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
One of the eight Magic Millions-restricted features on the Gold Coast race card for this Saturday is the 2013 Magic Millions Stayers Cup where the Gai Waterhouse-trained Kinnersley is favourite to win.
Set to run as Race 2 at 12:45pm the $170,000 Korean Air Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m) has drawn a bumper field of 14 starters plus three emergencies, Al Maher six-year-old Kinnersley the 59kg top-weight of the field.
Drawn in gate six with regular Tulloch Lodge rider Tommy Berry engaged Kinnersley enjoyed a good win in the Goulburn Cup back in November.
They were a luckless 10th last start however when 10th in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes over the mile at Warwick Farm beaten three lengths.
Waterhouse is hopeful he can bounce back on Saturday from a better gate and the bookies agreeing posting Kinnerslery at the top of the Magic Millions Stayers Cup odds at a quote of $3.40.
There are just three other horses under double figures in the markets with:
- #5 Tai Tai Tess ($15) – Wide gate 15 draw, into 13 with emergencies out, but with plenty of time to overcome, Robert Smerdon’s Magic Albert mare was seventh last time out over 1600m but should run better over the extra distance as she did when second in the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes over 1800m back in November
- #9 Noisy Ocean ($8) – Local Bryan Guy-trained Shovhog four-year-old has been in excellent form this summer with two wins and a second at their three runs throughout December, has had a lot of racing however but if they haven’t overdone it can be competitive at their home track at this distance
- # 13 Master Avatar ($9) – Gary Duncan’s Sunshine Coast visitor is in flying with four straight wins to add to here having won at Doomben, their home course and Eagle Farm over the past two months, last win was in Brisbane over the 1800m by an easy 2.5 lengths when carrying 59kg and the drop back to just 54kg here will be a big advantage
Other notable hopes at slightly longer odds then include early market mover Bid Spotter ($10) the veteran seven-year-old out to improve on their last start eighth in the Bernborough Handicap, another local runner from Bryan Guy’s stables Anagold ($11) and Easy Rocking eight-year-old Pepperwood ($12) who hasn’t won since their Coffs Harbour Cup victory back in August.
