The countdown to the $2 million 2013 Magic Millions Classic (1200m) is nearly over, with a hot field of juveniles to line up at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
The betting favourite at bookmaker.com.au is Sydney filly Assail ($2.80) who has drifted slightly after getting to as short as $2.50 earlier in the week.
Only Rick Hore-Lacy’s Clevadude ($4.60) comes close to the favourite in the market but will have to overcome a wide barrier 18 draw.
Just two other horses fall under double figures, with Queensland fillies Missy Longstocking and Real Surreal at $8 and $9 respectively.
The market opens up considerably outside the top four with others in the market including Greytfilly ($12) and Gai Waterhouse-trained pair Sweet Idea ($16) and Certitude ($17).
Not sure who to back in this high profile Gold Coast feature? Don’t worry as the Races.com.au team have done the hard work for you to bring you our very best betting selections.
#7 Missy Longstocking $8.00
The Queensland filly has done everything asked of her so far, winning four from four including twice at stakes level.
Many doubted her ability to run a strung 1200m but she quashed those concerns when bolting home to win the BJ McLachlan Stakes by 1 1/2 lengths.
Drawn well in barrier five she is likely to get the run of the race in behind the speed as favourites Assail (1) and Clevadude (18) are likely to have push hard early allowing her to slot in behind before showing her turn of foot in the finish.
Real Surreal is another who has benefited from a plum barrier draw and will be ridden by Michael Cahill from barrier three.
The Kelso Wood-trained galloper is likely to appreciate the extra distance on offer after hammering through the line to win by 3 1/2 lengths over 1000m at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Assail’s form is hard to knock and she is deserving favourite but could run into some trouble from the inside draw. Is two from two including a dominant three-length win in the Wyong Magic Millions and must be in the top three picks.
