Queensland trainer Robert Heathcote has been working hard in order to fix the barrier manners of Greytfilly and is hoping that will lead to an improved showing at the Gold Coast on Saturday in the 2013 Magic Millions Classic (1200m).
The exciting filly has shown plenty of ability with strong performances to finish in the top three of all four of her career outings but has been hampered by slow starts.
That was particularly evident in the Ladies Day Handicap at the Gold Coast on New Year’s Day when she completely missed the start only to storm home for second behind Global Dream.
Heathcote has paid plenty of attention to barrier practice this week, having the daughter of Ferocity jump out of the stalls with partners.
“I’ve done a lot of remedial work on her lately,” Heathcote said.
“We’ve had her jump out of the barriers with a few partners this week.
“I’d love to see her start the way she finishes.”
Despite her well documented barrier concerns, Greyfilly is still considered a reasonable chance in the 2013 Magic Millions betting market and is currently at $13 at bookmaker.com.au.
Heathcote admits he is “excited” heading into the bumper Magic Millions raceday where he also has $11 chance Heza Jetsetter in the 2013 Magic Millions Guineas.
Heza Jetsetter is coming off a third-place finish in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate where he flew home despite being stuck wide for most of the trip.
Heathcote knows that the likes of No Looking Back, Sizzling and Driefontein will be difficult to topple but is confident his charge is in good order and will be hitting the line come business time.
“I’m just glad to be going to the Magic Millions with a horse I regard as a genuine Stakes horse,” Heathcote said.
The great thing about the bookmaker.com.au bonus is that unlike at other bookmakers it can be split into four separate individual bets!
